Music: The time has come (Hillsong), I live for You (Andrew Ironside), My Saviour Lives (Newlife Church), Grace like Rain (Todd Agnew) and Hail the King (Nathan Ironside).

Message: Pastor Larry preached up a storm today as he shared from Luke 1:17, “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Larry challenged us several points:

  1. if we are not fishers of men, if we are not making disciples, then are we really following Jesus? So many people come to Christ purely because they want their needs met, but Jesus never said He would fix all of our problems. He said “… I will make you fishers of men.”
  2. we are not going to be a ‘good family’ church, we are going to be a ‘disciple making’ church!
  3. we are not just to have the purpose of saving the lost, but we are to be passionate about it as well!

All in all it was an awesome message so make sure you get the CD or download the podcast.

That’s a fairly scary thought isn’t it. ‘If I’m not becoming a fisher of men, am I truly following Christ?’
It would have to be a fair assessment that most people who say they are following Jesus Christ aren’t all that active in fishing for men – making disciples. Most seem to think it’s the church’s job to run the programs and events that will see souls saved, and it’s true that that works in some cases. But why should the church be busting its gut to get people into the church to get them saved when Jesus clearly said “out into the world and make disciples”.
It seems to me that every church member has their own ‘programs and events’ already running in their lives – they’re called ‘their friends, family and work collegues’ and this is the pool they should be fishing from.
But, if we’re not actively utilizing this fishing pool and actually fishing for men, are we truly following Christ or have just fallen into the age old religious trap of religiosity and selfish faith?
Anyway, those are some of my thoughts on it all.

Very true! It is so easy to forget/ignore the fact that we are to make disciples.

Has definitely caused me to rethink some things and how I can live more purposefully for Jesus.
